Where and when is my graduation ceremony?

Graduation 2020 Location and dates

The Awards Ceremonies for graduates will take place at Worcester Cathedral from Tuesday 3rd to Friday 6th November 2020. Dates for specific courses will be released from late June 2020.

When will I receive my invitation magazine?

You will receive an email with a link to the Invitation magazines in June. The magazine will contain information on how to order your tickets and robes for the ceremony. Please ensure that you keep your contact details up to date via your SOLE page as all Graduation communication will be via email.

My particular ceremony date is inconvenient. Is it possible to swap to another ceremony within that period?

No, it is not possible to change a ceremony date within a ceremony period.

What happens if I am unable to attend my ceremony?

If you are unable to attend, please let us know as soon as possible. Your award will be made 'in abstentia' and we will arrange to post your certificates to you after the ceremony. It is your responsibility to ensure that we hold the correct details for you - you can update these through your SOLE page. You will not be able to attend a later ceremony.

I cannot attend the ceremonies, can anyone else collect my certificate for me?

No, we can only allow the graduand to attend the ceremony and collect the certificate on the day.

For anyone who cannot attend, arrangements can be made to receive their certificate from the fortnight following the ceremonies in November.

Those who do not attend Graduation and wish their certificate posting, will need to pay to cover the cost of postage by calling the Firstpoint Desk on 01905 542551.

Postal charges are:

UK Mainland delivery £2.50

European delivery £10.00

International delivery £11.00

Those not attending their ceremony who wish to collect their certificate in person, from December, will need to e-mail a minimum of 5 working days in advance of their planned visit, to ensure that their certificate is available for collection from the Firstpoint desk of the Peirson Building, St Johns Campus. Those collecting their certificates will need to bring ID such as student card, driving licence. Those requiring someone to pick-up their certificate on their behalf must supply the name of the individual collecting the certificate in advance. This person must also supply identification when calling to collect the certificate.

How long is each award ceremony?

Each ceremony lasts for approximately for an hour and a half but larger ceremonies could last for an hour and 45 minutes.

When can I order my tickets?

All those we expect to graduate will receive an email during June with a link to an online invitation magazine. This will contain information on how to order your tickets and your academic robes and also a schedule of what happens on the day.

When do I need to order my tickets by?

You should order your tickets as soon as possible. Please do not wait until the Board of Examiners has confirmed your award before ordering your tickets.

The deadline for ordering tickets is Monday 30th September 2019.

How do I order tickets?

Visit your SOLE page and follow the online instructions. Please note that every guest attending will need a ticket - this includes children unless they are babes in arms.

How many guest tickets can I order?

We are able to guarantee all students the opportunity to purchase two guest tickets for their ceremony, and these tickets can be booked through your SOLE page. Due to the capacity of the Cathedral it is extremely unlikely that there will be any additional guest tickets available. However, you will be asked to let us know how many guest tickets you would prefer at the time of booking.

We will not know if there are any additional tickets available until after that the deadline for booking has passed. If extra tickets do become available we will contact you by email and publish information on the website.

I would like more than two tickets. How do I order more?

Due to the capacity of the Cathedral it is extremely unlikely that there will be any additional guest tickets available.  However, you will be asked to let us know how many guest tickets you would prefer at the time of booking.

We will not know if there are any additional tickets available until after that deadline date has passed and tickets have been actively purchased.  If tickets do become available these will be released on the day of the ceremony, on general sale, on a first-come-first-served basis.

I have reassessment to do, do I need to wait for my results before I can apply for tickets?

No, there is no need to wait for your results. Please return your ticket order form by the due date, and order robes and photography early. If your award is not confirmed you will be able to have a refund.

How much do the guest tickets cost?

The price for Cathedral guest tickets for the 2019 ceremonies is £18, Live Broadcast (at the University Arena) £9.

For the student who is graduating there is no charge to attend their ceremony.

What's included in the charge for the guest tickets?

  • Coach travel between Riverside and the Cathedral
  • A contribution towards the hire of the Cathedral
  • The Award Ceremony programme
  • A glass of sparkling wine or hot drink at the post-ceremony reception

How do I pay for my guest tickets?

You should follow the online instructions on your SOLE page.

Can I bring a child as a guest?

Children may attend the Awards Ceremonies, although we would ask you to use your judgement in deciding whether it is appropriate for small children to attend what can be a long ceremony. All children should be still and quiet throughout the ceremony and those children who become restless or disruptive will be asked to leave the Cathedral.

What happens if my guests change their mind or can no longer attend the ceremony?

All refunds need to be requested through the Examinations and Awards Officer directly. Any refund request must be made by no later than 12noon on Friday 1st November. No requests for refunds following this will be granted. All refunds will subject to a £5 administration fee.

Are guests allocated seats in the Cathedral?

There is no reserved seating for guests, except for guests who have indicated on the ticket request form that they have special requirements, eg wheelchair access, and that request has been granted. Please note that reserved seating for ease of access/additional space is located around the Cathedral and not necessarily nearer the stage.

Seating is allocated on a first come, first served basis.

Will I be allowed to sit with my guests?

No. Seats for students are allocated in one area of the Cathedral.

What happens if I don't complete my course?

Should you fail to complete your course by the end of August 2019, you will be contacted by email to confirm that you  won’t be able to graduate in Autumn 2020. Once your award has been agreed, you will be invited to the next awards ceremony in the following academic year.

What happens if I owe the University money?

Students who have a debt to the University at the end of their course of study will not receive official confirmation of their result, and the certificate will be withheld until the debt is settled.  Anyone with a debt of more than £500 will not be allowed to attend their ceremony.

When will I receive my certificate?

Award certificates and transcripts are presented on the day of the award ceremony. If you are not attending your ceremony, you should confirm your address and payment details on your SOLE page in order for the certificate to be posted to you after all the ceremonies have taken place in November.

What is a graduand?

A graduand is a student who is about to graduate, or receive a degree. Once the award is presented the student is then a graduate.

What do I need to bring with me on the day?

On the day of your ceremony, you will need to bring:

  • your ticket collection receipt / confirmation of payment for tickets (printable from the SOLE page)
  • your order confirmation from Northams,  in order to collect your academic robes
  • hair grips may be useful to fix your robe in position

I studied at a partner organisation who are holding a separate awards ceremony, which should I go to?

You can choose which ceremony you wish to attend, but please bear in mind that any official University of Worcester merchandise, including photography, will only be available at the University of Worcester ceremonies.
