Volume 11
The British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences (BASES) Student Conference 2019 was co-hosted by the University of Dundee and Abertay University, Dundee, 17th-18th April 2019, attracting over 220 delegates from 65 different Universities, Colleges and Professional Organisations.
With a conference theme of Sport and Exercise Science – Transforming Lives, this programme showcased world-leading research, consultancy and educational work being undertaken by our profession to improve physical and mental health, tackle disease and enhance athletic performance while also providing an opportunity for undergraduate and post-graduate student delegates to engage in networking and career development opportunities and to present their own research in free communication and poster presentation sessions.
This special edition of the Graduate Journal of Sport, Exercise and Physical Education Research (GJSEPER), publishes the peer-reviewed abstracts of these free communication and poster presentations. Embracing the conference theme, and spanning the five BASES divisions of Physiology & Nutrition, Psychology, Sport and Performance, Physical Activity for Health, and Biomechanics & Motor Behaviour, these early career researchers are to be commended for the exceptionally high standard of the research presented and for the professionalism of their approach throughout.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank the editor in chief of GJSEPER, Professor Derek Peters, and his colleagues, for supporting us to publish this special issue and for the opportunities that a Journal like this offers to early career researchers. This path to share their research findings to a wider audience is greatly valued by our academic community and by our profession.
We hope that you are engaged and inspired by this special issue.
Dr Audrey Duncan, Dr Ashley Richardson, Helen Collins & Dr Graeme Sorbie
