Volume 8
The BASES Student Conference 2018 was held at Northumbria University, Newcastle upon Tyne, on the 12th and 13th April. The articles contained within this special issue are based on the presentations given during the conference.
The aim of the conference was to bring together student research in sport and exercise science and in that respect, the programme was designed to recognise the distinctiveness of the many disciplines. The oral presentations represented research in the areas of sport and exercise physiology, including clinical exercise science; sport and exercise psychology; sport and exercise biomechanics; sport and exercise nutrition and sport performance. Whilst the poster presentations provided a kaleidoscope of research across all disciplines. The conference was attended by students and staff from 38 UK university institutions and 8 elite sport organisations.
I commend these papers by early career researchers and acknowledge the immense amount of work that went into preparing abstracts. I also want to acknowledge the editor in chief of the Graduate Journal of Sport, Exercise & Physical Education Research, Professor Derek Peters. I sincerely thank you and your team for the support in publishing this special issue. Publishing the abstracts for students who presented at this conference is important for them to develop their career and is greatly valued by our academic community.
Many thanks and enjoy the special issue.
Dr Stuart Goodall, Chair of the Scientific Programme Committee
