Case Study: Naoko; Changed from Health and Well-Being BSc to Social Welfare BA

Naoko was studying Health and Well-Being. She had failed 2 modules: one in each semester of her first year. Both of the modules that she failed were science based. Naoko wasn’t sure whether to re-take the failed assignments as she felt that she would probably fail them again and that even if she passed them she would face more science modules in years two and three. Other than struggling on with her course she felt that the only other option was to leave. After talking to an Advisor Naoko decided that she would work towards re-submitting her failed assignments but would also explore the possibility of transferring to a course where there would be less emphasis on science.  Naoko successfully applied to transfer to the Social Welfare Course and was able to transfer credit that she had earned during her first year on the Health and Well-Being Course, including credit for one of her failed modules that she passed after re-submitting work. Naoko is now in year two of the Social Welfare course. She is enjoying the course and is achieving good results.
