What grade will I get if I have to take reassessment?

Reassessment is usually marked on a pass/fail basis only.

For academic year 2020/21, safety net arrangements mean students who submit and fail an item of assessment at their first attempt will be offered reassessment at second attempt uncapped.

Students who fail to submit their first attempt will be offered reassessment at second attempt with capped grades, i.e. the individual items(s) of reassessment will be limited to a maximum grade of D-

How often can I be reassessed? When must I complete reassessment?

If you fail a module on the initial attempt you will automatically be offered a reassessment opportunity. This work must be submitted by 3pm on Thursday 8th July 2021. If you fail the reassessment opportunity you will be required to retake the module again with attendance. If at this stage you have still not passed the module one further reassessment opportunity will be granted to you.

If I need to resubmit coursework how do I find out what I am required to do?

Details of your reassessment tasks will be made available via a link on your SOLE page detailing which modules you need to be reassessed in. Please go to SOLE > Assessments > Reassessment/Retake Letter.  If no details are available, please contact the appropriate module tutor as soon as possible.

Where do I submit my Reassessment Work?

Reassessments will usually be submitted using the same method as the original assessment.  Please refer to your Reassessment Letter on SOLE for further information.

What is the deadline date for the resubmission of coursework?

All coursework reassessment must be submitted by 3pm on Thursday 8th July 2021.  Re-sit exams will take place throughout w/c 5th July 2021.  Please refer to your Reassessment Letter on SOLE for further information.

When will resit examinations take place?

All resit examinations are scheduled to take place during w/c 5th July 2021.

If you are required to resit an examination, this will be shown on your reassessment letter on SOLE.  The resit exam timetable will be published on SOLE. If you have any queries regarding resits please contact  exams@worc.ac.uk

I need to retake a module - what do I do?

You are responsible for ensuring that the retake module is added to your programme of study in the following academic year.  To register to retake a module, you must contact a Programme Adviser.  Contact details and opening times for the Programme Advisers are regularly updated here: Telephone Advice Line

Must I complete all assessment for a module?

Yes - all work must be completed and submitted in order to pass a module.

I have not submitted my assessment and/or attended my exam?

You will receive a grade of NS (non-submission).  This is a fail grade.  You will normally be entitled to complete reassessment and the maximum grade you will be able to attain for the retake is a D- .  Please refer to What grade will I get if I have to take reassessment?

Can I let a fail stand?

NO. You must pass all modules taken. You may, however, proceed to the next level of the course (i.e. Level 2 or Level 3) while still completing any outstanding assessment, provided you have passed at least 90 credits at the previous level. If you have not passed a minimum of 90 credits you will not be able to proceed to the next level of the course, and, if you are a full-time student, you may be required to change your status to part-time in order to complete the necessary reassessment.

What happens if I fail a re-assessment?

Where a module has been failed after reassessment, you will be required to retake the module with attendance. Please refer to I need to retake a module - what do I do?

If you retake the module and do not pass you will be granted one further reassessment opportunity. All retakes of modules will be capped at a maximum mark of D-.

How do I access material via Blackboard for a module taken in an earlier semester?

You log in to Blackboard as normal. You should have the current and previous semesters Blackboard sites available when you log in. If for any reason you don’t have the site needed for a re-assessment, then they just email the team at tel@worc.ac.uk stating the module code/semester you require..

I can't read the feedback - what should I do?

The majority of feedback is now given electronically.  If feedback is still given in handwriting that you cannot read you should  discuss the matter in the first instance with the module tutor concerned. This will usually resolve the problem straight away. If you aren't happy with the outcome you are free to use the formal complaints process.

What decisions do Board of Examiners make?

The Board of Examiners is responsible for:
• reviewing the students’ entire profile of module results
• making decisions regarding progression
• confirming eligibility for awards on the basis of accumulated credit
• ensuring any award-specific requirements have been met
• conferring awards and if appropriate agreeing the classification of each student
All grades are provisional until they have been considered and confirmed by the Scheme Board of Examiners.

What does "Passed, Progress to next level" mean?

Undergraduate students are normally required to take and pass 120 credits at each level. If the Board of Examiners indicated that you may progress to the next level of the course (without conditions) then you have met the requirements at that level.

What does "Progress to the next level with conditions" mean?

You have achieved at least 90 credits at your current level and therefore the Board of Examiners has permitted you to move to the next level of your course.
However, there will be a reassessment or retake requirement that you must successfully complete in order that you have 120 credits at that level.
You will be notified by letter and via your SOLE page what the reassessment or retake requirement is.  Please go to SOLE > Assessments > Reassessment/Retake Letter for further information.

What does "Not able to progress, repeat semester" mean?

Undergraduate students are normally required to take and pass 120 credits at each level of the course. If the Board of Examiners has indicated that you may not progress then this is usually because you have achieved fewer than 90 credits at that level.
Where the decision indicates "repeat semester" this is an indication that you will need to extend your studies by approximately a semester.

The Board of Examiners require you to either complete reassessment in the assessment item(s) or retake a module. You should refer to your SOLE page which will identify these modules. You will also be sent a letter outlining the reassessment/retakes required.

You are strongly recommended to contact a Programme Adviser to discuss and plan your course.  Their contact details and opening times are available here: Telephone Advice Line

What does "Not able to progress, repeat year" mean?

Students are normally required to take and pass 120 credits at each level of the course. If you have failed 90 credits or more, the Board of Examiners will require you to withdraw from studies.

If students have successfully claimed mitigation and not passed 90 credits or more, the Board may agree to students retaking modules in the next academic year.  Where the decision indicates "repeat year" this is an indication that you will need to extend your studies by approximately a year.

You are strongly advised to contact a Programme Adviser to discuss and plan your course.  Programme Adviser contact details and opening times are available here: Telephone Advice Line

I have not submitted work for several modules this year, what will happen?

If you fail 90 credits or more in one academic year or at one level of study you will be required to withdraw from your course and the University.  If you are concerned about your results and progression, you are advised to discuss this with a Programme Adviser.  Contact details and opening times are available here: Telephone Advice Line

Why have I been required to Retake a Module (Grade FT)?

The Board of Examiners normally require a student to retake a module if the reassessment opportunity has not been passed. A grade FT indicates the need to retake a module.  Please refer to I need to retake a module - what do I do?
